Teignmouth Chess Club – Safeguarding Policy
Purpose
Teignmouth Chess Club is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for any child/young person under the age of 18 who wants to attend Teignmouth Chess Club, including unaccompanied with parental consent.
This policy is communicated to all members.
Scope
This policy applies to all children/young persons under the age of 18 attending Teignmouth Chess Club.
For safeguarding purposes, a child/young person is anyone under the age of 18, regardless of school, university, or living arrangements.
Standards of Behaviour
All members must ensure:
A child/young person must not be left alone and at least a minimum 2 adults are present with them at all times.
Avoid one-to-one situations where possible; ensure activities are observable.
If games are played offsite, written parental approval is needed.
Never transport a child/young person alone.
Never engage in inappropriate behaviour, including, physical or verbal abuse.
A child/young person is treated with respect and fairness.
If in any doubt, speak to a club official.
Safeguarding Officer
As the club does not have a dedicated junior section; Teignmouth Chess Club does not appoint a safeguarding officer.
Reporting Concerns
If a child is at immediate risk, call 999.
All other concerns must be reported to a club official, who will record the facts, and if necessary, contact the relevant authority.
